About the Artists

Victoria struck her first arc as a welder in 1974, and began her career in the arts as a jeweler in 1976. Although her love for the metal arts began there, she didn’t return to her metallic roots until the late 1990s. The 20 year period in-between was spent working in the fiber arts, where her designs in wearable art masks won several awards, and found their way into numerous private collections. She never tired of masks as an art form, but longed to return to a medium that would allow her to hammer, cut and make big noise. Something even more primitive than mask making. Something that required . . . FIRE!
That serendipitous chance came in 2003 when Scott celebrated the end of a 20 year career in the telecommunications industry by joining her in their newly built studio, and the sparks (literally) flew! While they are both knowledgeable in all the processes used in their work, they naturally gravitate to the areas that hold the most interest for them individually. Scott prefers the cutting and forming side of the studio; while Victoria, after years of detailed fiber work, enjoys the coloring and finishing aspect of their work. Their award winning work is 100% handmade — by the two of them. Each piece is a signed original, and is sketched, cut, colored and assembled one at a time. The vibrant, high fired coloring and warm brown patinas are processes developed by Victoria, and are unique to their work. They use hand-held plasma and gas torches, not a computerized system. They weld by hand with MIG, TIG, and Oxy-Fuel. |
